Arriving in Larkspur, Colorado on Thursday, May 5, we were welcomed by Cliff and Gerry Wallace and will "camp" in their driveway over the weekend. Bill and Cliff met at Jellystone RV Park in the summer of 2009 and we have remained friends. They had visited us in Oregon last summer on their vacation.
On Friday we went to "May Day-2011". It is sponsored by the Colorado Agricultural Leadership Foundation. John and Bea Lowell lived along Plum Creek in this ranch house all their married life. As active ranchers and community members they loved helping kids and being involved in community activities. Wanting to leave a legacy they set aside 133 acres of their historically designated "Centennial" ranch for the benefit of agricultural education. (A Centennial ranch is one that has been owned by the same family for over 100 years.)
This beautiful team of Percheron horses was giving wagon rides over Plum Creek between the ranch house and the front of the property. Notice the teepee in the background.
It was great to see Chief Joseph again after having worked with him at Jellystone RV Park in 2009. He was putting on a demonstration for the kids (and adults). He's such an interesting man and always smiling!
Mother's Day found us sharing a barbecue with Cliff and Jerry and their family. Seemed like we ate all day! Here the guys are enjoying stuffed jalapeno poppers. We also had buffalo sausage, lamb chops, filet minon, salads, and cheesecake for dessert! And the weather was absolutely beautiful.
Thanks, Cliff and Gerry for a wonderful weekend.
Happy Trails until we meet again.....
